Hi Dana! I know — I haven’t been around in ages but I just wanted to let you know I’m still around, following you and your Dawson

I now belong to a fitness center. But we did once belong to a Y. The main reason for us switching to the new place was location. The Y was just too far from our home. But price-wise, the Y was great. And it is definitely more family and kid-friendly than the place we’re at now. So I think after your tour, you may end up loving it!

Hia Daisy! Yeah…we’re not going to leave the house — the expectant snow is scary. Especially after my car slid into the ditch on the first BIG snowstorm. We were on our way home from Wausau….:-)

I set up a tour of the place for January 3. I think it’ll be a good way to see what’s offered. Plus, they are offering reduced rates because it’s the 40th anniversary of our local YMCA. That could be good.

We like our local YMCA. We have a family membership, and we have actually gone together, Husband, Me, and Amigo (15) to work out. Taking them along keeps me from blowing my money (and calories) on a latte at the Starbucks down the road.

Leslie, I’m thinking the Y might be the way to go. I was searching their website and found so many classes I’d love to join. They even offer Ballroom dance. If they have an instructor who looks just like Maksim Chmerkovskiy, I’m sooo in!

Red, that’s what I’m excited about: Yoga! My favorite!

FC, I tried the Curves in our town and didn’t like it. I tried to like it, but one of the girls who worked there wasn’t very nice. She had lost a lot of weight before she started working there and she expected everyone else to follow her advice, but it just didn’t work for me.

I belong to Curves which is a women’s only gym and I love it! It helps that the women there are incredibly nice and can talk your ear off.

I had a membership to the local Y when I lived in KC and it was great. I only used it for a yoga class, though, which happened to be at the perfect time of day for me.

In that case, though, the Y was also much more reasonably-priced than any other local gym.

We belong to our local YMCA. (Not that I work out there or anything.) It’s mostly for Julia. They have tons of activities for kids and families. Julia does swimming, gymnastics and t-ball there. This year, she’ll be old enough for basketball and soccer, which we’ll probably try. The great thing is, it’s really affordable and she gets to give all kinds of activities a go to see what she really enjoys. Plus, that’s where I met the moms that now form our playgroup. So, I heart the Y. If yours is anything like ours, I’d tell you to go for it.
