The Couple Who Cooks Together…

When I first met my husband, I had little knowledge of cooking.  In fact, as our relationship progressed, I often spent many a night eating dinner at his place simply because he was cooking.

He had experience in the kitchen as a chef for the Hot Fish Shoppe, a seafood restaurant that has since closed up “shop” years ago.

Doug would make me steaks, shrimp, excellent pasta dishes, breaded pork chops (seriously, my mother NEVER breaded a pork chop — this was new to me) and introduced me to seasonings.

Yes, seasonings.  Before I met him, I thought salt and pepper were the bomb.  He taught me how to use ginger, curry, chili powder, oregano, basil, thyme, and his personal favorite Lawry’s Seasoning Salt.

I know what you’re thinking.  I’m a complete kitchen nitwit, but he really has taught me well.

Last night we cooked together which is a something we rarely do for fear we’ll kill each other in our tiny kitchen.  But, it was a different last night.  We each took responsibility for different ingredients in the Spicy Beefy Chicken & Broccoli Stir Fry.

I chopped the veggies, he sauteed the beef and chicken and together we made dinner.  It turned out excellent.  Just the right amout of flavor, ginger and garlic.

I think we may have to cook together more often.

  1. I don’t cook.
Every time I try to cook (with my husband) he takes over…I gave up.

    You are lucky.

  2. Yes, you are lucky. Our menus for cooking at home usually include spaghetti or meatloaf (me) or chicken (hubby). I’m with your guy on the Lawry’s seasoning salt, though. There’s nothing like it on hamburgers.

  3. What fun! Dave and I used to cook breakfast together on Sunday mornings. We may have to start that up again. You made me remember how much I used to enjoy that!

  4. My fiancé usually cooks dinner at least 3 or 4 nights a week (which is great considering he gets home from work at 8:30PM). But on the rare occassion when he lets me “assist” I enjoy it even more. It’s just a nice bonding moment for us. =)

  5. how fun. We rarely cook together either. Only when friends are over. It’s fun!

  6. I really need to cook more often. Cooking with the wife is always fun, but I think I need to do better on sharing stuff to do. :P

I should make a resolution to cook more often. Thanks for giving me the idea. :)

  7. We cook a lot together when it is not football season. It’s a little easier during basketball. He’s a great cook and should have went to culinary school (his mother wanted him to go), and I think we’ve taught each other a lot.

    Love ya!

  8. It sounds wonderful, you’ve inspired me to try to drag my husband off the couch to cook with me (LOL)! (Seriously, he is the best breakfast cook ).
