Bad Santa!

My toddler is turning into a terrible two year old monster. I’ve been praying hopefully, that he’d skip his terrible two’s, but I am just not that lucky.

Thursday night we took him to see Santa Claus at a church family event. Dawson wanted nothing to do with the man in the red suit. In fact, the closer we got in line, the tighter his grip became around my neck. And he tightened his legs around my waist as well; he must have really been afraid! Same as last year. He didn’t want to go near Santa. The only decent picture I have of Dawson and Santa is from when he was 3 months old.

Here’s a photo history of our Santa visits:

Christmas 2004, Dawson was 3 months old. He didn’t care who held him as long as they didn’t make loud sounds or push their faces into his.

Christmas 2005, he screamed with fright. Poor kid. Mumma and Daddy are so mean for making him sit on a strange man’s lap.

Christmas 2006, remembering the trauma from last year, he decided there was no way he was going near that man again.

I really wanted to get a good picture this year, one where my fat arse isn’t in the photo. Grandma wants to take him to the mall tomorrow to try again. Yeah, like THAT is gonna happen.

After the second Santa visit, we’re going to the Enchanted Forest and then to see Charlotte’s Web at the movie theater. Dawson is mesmerized by the TV ads for this movie. Do you think a two year old will sit nicely through it?

Wish us luck!

  1. I don’t have a picture of SF with the man in red either. Ever.
She’ll be 30 before she sits on his lap. Oh well.

I haven’t taken her to the movies yet either. I want to take her to see ‘happy feet’…Dunno if she’ll sit and stay like a good puppy…uhm girl.

  2. Good luck with that, Dana. Maybe it’d be better to wait until it comes out on video.

Some of my favorite santa pictures are when the kid is screaming. I think it’s charming. :) Just my opinion, of course.

  3. I seriously think the Santa thing is overrated, but yet I really want a good picture of Dawson and the fat man.

And as for Charlotte, my cousins are going, too and I think he’ll be just fine. He’s got quite an attention span when he’s really interested in something!

  4. Aww, that first photo is so cute! My only photos of Nathan with Santa are the ones when he was really little, after that he developed a serious fear of people wearing any kind of costume. However, now that he thinks Santa brings presents (yes, at 8 years old), he wants to go see him!

We take our kids to movies even as babies. Get Dawson his own tub of popcorn and I bet he sits and watches the whole thing.

  5. The look on Santa’s face in the second picture is as funny as Dawson’s!

My oldest could sit through a movie before he turned three, but my youngest at 3.5 probably still wouldn’t! So depends on the kid I think.

  6. Why do we put ourselves through this? I agonize over the dang Santa picture each year, but Julia’s first was the only one that turned out for us, too. I’m not certain a good Santa picture really exists.

I haven’t taken Julia to the theater, yet. We’ve done the drive-in, though. I hope you all enjoy the movie! Sounds like a fun day.

  7. Well, that’s looking like it’s going to be my history, too.

    Super mega cuteness, tho’!!

  8. Oh, Dana. He is SIMPLY. PRECIOUS.

I love it. Very cute. I’m glad you’re in the pic, too.

  9. I have to laugh because I tried to resize that second photo….that is why is looks so skewed. I had no luck so I just gave up.

Thanks for all the compliments and advice. I love you all!

  10. [...] When Dawson was just wee baby boy he could have cared less about sitting on Santa’s lap. At one year old he cried the second I placed him on the big guy’s lap and at two years old he screamed as though he was being murdered. In fact, I had to stand next to Santa Claus just to get Dawson to go near him.  (Photo recap can be found here.) [...]
