My Creativity Needs Upgrading, Too

I’ve been “living” here at TheDanaFiles.com for about a month and a half and I’m still not totally moved in.  This process of using Word Press has been fun and chaotic but I must say I’ve learned a lot.

On Thursday, Emily from Swank Web Hosting graciously upgraded my Word Press account to the Cadillac version.  It’s magnificent.  I cannot believe I was using Word Press 1.05 all that time!  I figured it would be a horrible process to upgrade, but Emily was so kind and prompt and willing to help me.  I can’t thank her enough.  If any of you are looking to host your own blog, Swank Web Hosting is the company you must choose.  I can’t say enough good things about the company and the team behind it.  Ladies, I love you.

Over the last few days since my upgrade, I’ve been retrieving all my Blogger and MSN Spaces posts that I had stored on my computer.  Let me tell you, it was hard work.  Many nights I have stayed up late categorizing entries, correcting spelling mistakes and cleaning up this place.  It’s like cleaning my house, I won’t be happy until the work is done and I’ll try desperately to maintain the neatness.  Which brings me to my blog template.

My original template was made by Karen of Troll Baby Graphics.  Karen is brilliant and talented and I love her to pieces.  I’m trying my best to adapt the Blogger version to a Word Press version, because I miss my cute and neat template, damnit!  It’s a lot harder than I thought.  I’ve borrowed numerous books on HTML and Web Design from the local library and while I’ve learned a ton of new tips and shortcuts, I don’t friggin’ understand themes in WP.  I am eventually going to break down and ask the Swank ladies for help, but not until I give it 2000%.  Yes, that’s two thousand per cent.  I’m not giving up just yet.

Also, it’s Day Five of NaBloPoMo or National Blog Posting Month, created by Mrs. Kennedy of Fussy.  I’m doing well so far.  I’ve managed to post every day and I’m constantly thinking of new and exciting things to write about.  Although I have to admit I’m not very creative lately.  Hence this boring post about upgrades and HTML.  But, a post is a post and I want all of you, my readers and lurkers to comment today (you too, Crushing Krisis — you’ve graciously linked to me but failed to comment)!  Tell me what you’re up to, leave me suggestions on what to write about.  Ask questions!  What do you want to know about Dana that I haven’t written already?  I’m game.  I’ll answer any inquiry the best I can.

Okay, I’m off to clean my real house now.  I have dishes and laundry piling up.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

  1. Hi! Found you off the nablo list… I really enjoyed visiting your blog!

  2. Happy Sunday.
You are brave to go to your own domain. I’d love to do that but I have no friggin’ clue where to begin and not enough patience to learn. I am a slacker. Blogger does most of it for me and I got a great artist to spice it up a bit (Gorgeous Denise).

    Good luck.

  3. I use Wordpress. I’m pretty new to it, but I’ve found a lot of help searching and asking questions in the Wordpress Support Forums (http://wordpress.org/support/). I’m participating in NaBloPoMo, too!

  4. Hi Rashenbo! Great to meet you! I’m off to visit you next! :)

  5. Thanks Janet and Leslie! I’m catching on to the Word Press things…and the domanin name is the best decision I’ve made so I suggest it to anyone!

  6. Sorry for my lack of weekend comment - as you may have noticed, i was operating on a bit of a scattered brain. I’ve been really loving all of the unique new reads i’ve found through NaBloPoMo - it’s been a really long time since i felt that my blog was connected to any sort of larger community, and it’s awesome to have a little piece of that back in my life. I’ll definitely be reading all month!

  7. Hi Peter….:) Nice to meet you! Thanks for the comment.

  8. [...] Since I’m now awake but miserable, I head to the computer to write my post for NaBloPoMo and all I can think to write is this article.  I still manage to crank out a post somewhat cheerfully.  I mean, who wants to hear about a stupid migraine?  [...]
