Fall, Fun, Family Days
Yesterday was such a great day. I had my eye exam (Finally! I didn’t go last year) and to my surprise just like I thought my eyes have gotten worse. Okay, just my left eye. It seems my astigmatism is causing my vision to worsen and Dr. Rollins has suggested new oxygenated breathable contacts in addition to my new glasses. I can still wear the old ones if I wish, but there will be a difference in prescription by -.25.
I decided to order the new glasses, perhaps the new prescription will eliminate some of the migraine headaches I’ve been having on a recurring basis. It took me only 10 minutes to pick out my new frames. They are plastic frames with a square shape. I didn’t like the color, black, so I had the optician order the frame in blue so I can try them on. She commented how I knew my style and that I’m great at choosing frames. I had to confess to her that I worked her job at Sterling Optical four years ago and she said, “Oh…that explains the quickness of your choice.” What an interesting thing to say. I’m also ordering these contacts after I try them out for a few days. My previous lenses would dry out often and caused my eyes to itch insanely. We’ll see how these are. I’m wearing the sample pair today at work and so far so good.
After my eye exam, I went to lunch with my mother-in-law at Noodles & Co. She’d never been there before and wanted to try it because I told her how much I love it. I had the Penne Rosa (again! I know! I need to change it up a bit) and she had the Whole Grain Fettuccine Alfredo. We each had the cucumber tomato salad and it was wonderful (even if it didn’t have lettuce in it). It was nice to be able to talk to my MIL. Doug’s parents spend a lot of time at their cabin in Northern Wisconsin. We gossiped about my ex-sister-in-law (her ex-daughter-in-law) who is as crazy as ever a little on the unique side. And we talked about Dawson and the possibility of me having another baby someday. I admit. I’m ready. Scared, but ready. Doug? Not so much ready, but he is coming around to the idea not sure yet.
After our lunch I ordered Japanese Pan Noodles to go for Doug and when I got home I took Dawson for a walk to the library so Doug could eat and finish his “Window Restoration Project”. Basically, he’s sealing all our windows for winter so that the heat doesn’t escape. I know it sounds nutty but we save so much money every year when he does this.
At the library, Dawson had a blast! He loves the Lego blocks table because he loves to stack and make towers. He played at the table while I looked for some history books to read. I love politics and I often read biographies of past presidents. Did you know that since the year 1840, every president elected in a year ending in zero has either died during their term or survived and assassination attempt? Except for George W. Bush who’s fate is still waiting to be confirmed. (God Bless him. I adore my George.)
After fifteen minutes of playing, Dawson saw that I was sitting down to look at my selections and he toddled over to me carrying two books. The first one was a photograph book of baby frogs. He had such fun giggling at all the pictures of frogs, tadpoles, larvae and other goodies. The second book was about Thanksgiving. I read to him and he loved pointing to the turkeys on the pages. Later, the librarian commented on his amazing attention span and I didn’t even realize it myself. My son now sits quietly when I read! He didn’t fight to turn the pages or become distracted like he usually would. I was shocked myself.
I checked out 4 books, two on HTML because I want to learn to pimp my blog, man! And then I let Dawson choose two books. He chose the Thanksgiving book and a book called “Ducky” (you guessed it, a rubber duck book). Dawson pronounces “ducky” as “duddy” and it cracks me up every time.
On the walk home, we ran through some leaves and stopped to look at the most interesting ones. We also kicked small pebbles on the sidewalk. When we got home, we decided to put leaves into our orange pumpkin trash bags! That was fun, too!
I really enjoyed spending time with my family yesterday. ‘Tis the season of family time, I suppose. The meteorologists are calling for snow here on Thursday. It starts to make me realize that fall will soon be over and winter will set in. I’m not ready for winter. That reminds me. I have Christmas shopping to do!

Becca, I totally know what you mean. It’s so hard to get contacts that feel comfortable. I just need glasses to see far away and honestly, I find myself taking my glasses off all day to read and putting them back on to see distances. I am really liking the contacts so far!
