Weekends Are Too Short

The weekends are just not long enough for me, and because I work every Saturday, my weekend doesn’t start until 4 p.m. Saturday evening and ends Monday at midnight. It’s just not enough time for me to do all the things I needed to do. It’s moments like these that I curse myself for having to work outside the home. I want to be a stay-at-home-mother. I want to be with my child. I want Donald Trump to call me on the phone and say that he’s paying all my debts for me – that I should consider it a donation; a tax write-off – and that I can now stay at home and be financially stable at the same time. So Donald Trump? If you read blogs, please read mine and send your donation immediately. I’m positive you’ve got $150,000 to spare. It will be a drop in the bucket for you. And I will be eternally grateful. And if I have to, I’ll pay you back in by writing a praising blog entry about you once a week. Consider it advertising.

Anyway…Saturday night, Doug had to work third shift because several of his night staff quit and he wasn’t able to hire anyone new in such a short time. Because he would need to sleep during the evening before going in, I decided to keep Dawson out of the house. There was no way I could have kept a two-year-old quiet at home for 5 hours. So after I picked Dawson up from my parents’ house, I took him to Schmeeckle Reserve in town to walk the nature path. We had a fantastic time. I have pictures up at Flickr if you wish to see our Fall Fun.

After our walk, I took Dawson for dinner at Noodles & Co. and he loved his buttered noodles! I admit they were tasty! I had the Penne Rosa; it is my new favorite! Dawson was so funny. He had his fork full of noodles and was trying to fit the entire bite into his mouth. The woman at the table next to us was laughing at his attempt. It was funny.

After dinner we went to Elder-Beerman to kill some time. I bought a new shirt that I now hate (buyer’s remorse) so I took it back yesterday. It just didn’t look very good once I got it home and tried it on. Normally, I try clothes on in the store but this was not possible with Dawson in tow.

Finally we went home and Doug was already awake, getting ready to leave for work. He was so happy he got to sleep uninterrupted. I told him he must remember that when I’m ready to jump out the window after Dawson’s temper tantrums. Maybe he’ll return the favor and take him out of the house for me? Maybe? Yeah. I doubt it, too.

Sunday, I spent the day scrap booking with friends. My parents decided to take Dawson again, to give me some time to myself. It was a fun day. I just enjoyed the time away. After my girl time, I went home and took a nap before going to get Dawson. Thank you so much, Mom & Dad, for being around to do baby-sit. It makes me feel sane again.

On Monday, Dawson and I decorated for Halloween. We hung our lights on the house and in the bushes out front. I was a bit nervous on the ladder, but we knew Daddy Doug wasn’t going to do this, so I adapted. When we turned the lights on Dawson was mesmerized. I don’t think he knew what they were, but he loved the purple, orange and green flickering lights anyway.

That night, Doug’s mom agreed to watch the Doodlebug and Doug and I went to watch the Packers get their asses kicked at the Brewery Packer Party. The food was delicious – catered by Grazie’s – we had pasta, chicken, roast beef, cheese & sausage, the works.
When we got home I went straight to bed. I am still tired. I wish I could crawl right back in bed and be lazy. All day.

Dawson’s first day at his new daycare is today. He cried only a little when I left. I think he’s going to be just fine. I am a little worried about him, but I’m sure he’s okay. I guess I just miss him, now that I know he’s not downstairs.

Ugh. Being a mom is tough sometimes. How do we do it?

  1. How do we do it? I honestly have no idea. Some days I just scrape by.

  2. Doll! I hear you. I really HEAR you. I find myself sighing when I think of all the time I waste at work. Even though I bring home an income, is it worth it? To have my child in daycare? It really sucks sometimes.
